We teach Krav Maga as a complete fighting system, rather than as a workout, which is how a lot of Krav Maga is presented and taught in the US e.g., punch a pad a hundred times, thirty push-ups and repeat etc. Whilst Krav Maga training acknowledges that there is a link between fitness and fighting, our classes make a distinction between combat fitness training (Cosher Kravi), and training to fight. Whilst you will see an improvement in your fitness through training at Krav Maga Yashir that is a by-product of learning how to fight. Krav Maga Yashir is a complete system, and we teach people how to fight and defend themselves in all of the potential dimensions of a violent confrontation e.g., when standing, when seated, when on the ground, when in confined spaces etc. We also teach solutions to both unarmed and armed threats/attacks that may be committed by one or more aggressors/attackers. Much of our training is scenario driven where we teach effective decision making to complement the physical techniques that are used to deal with violent situations etc.
We are a Krav Maga system that teaches and uses sparring in order to develop fighting skills. Whilst sparring has many differences to the “format” of a real-life fight, it can be used to develop the skills necessary to be successful in such confrontations e.g., being able to work under pressure, move effectively, control range and distance properly etc. It is also useful for reinforcing good habits, such as keeping the hands up in a good guard position, and regulating breathing etc. Students are introduced into our sparring classes from the very start. However initially they will only take part in drills to build the skills necessary to be able to spar productively, and have it be an enjoyable experience. We also teach grappling, throwing and groundwork in a similar way.
As well as teaching solutions to violence we also teach our students how to avoid being victimized in the first place e.g., how to understand the various methods and processes that violent offenders use, when selecting locations, when choosing people to victimize, and carrying out surveillance on them etc. By understanding these things, it is possible to avoid being the target of a street robbery or violent assault. We also present everything we do within a legal framework/context to ensure that individuals understand what is needed to make a claim of self-defense, when this can be lost in a fight, and what constitutes excessive force etc.
To take part in our adult Krav Maga classes, you must first take one of our beginner/introductory Krav Maga classes – we require everybody, regardless of previous martial arts and/or Krav Maga experience, to take one of these classes, as it introduces people to some of the specific ways we train, which they may not have experienced, and that allows them to hit the ground running, in our regular classes. In this beginner Krav Maga class/seminar, you will be introduced to some of the fundamental concepts and ideas that provide the foundation for the system, as well as being taught how to hold and work pads correctly, and safely take part in the “fighting games” that we use in our classes, to both warm up, whilst developing skills (our warm ups, don’t comprise of push-ups, sit-ups etc., but involve activities that train and develop skills necessary for dealing with real-life violence, such as effective movement and range control). These classes are 60-minutes in length and are suitable for both men and women aged 18+. To learn more about these classes use the link below.
